Object of the Season (Winter 2022)
Edge-on galaxy NGC 4565 in Coma Berenices
NGC 4565 is a bright spiral galaxy in the northern part of Coma Berenices, seen almost edge-on. The object belongs to Virgo Cluster. Wilhelm Herschel discovered the object on 6 April 1785. Note the other edge-on, NGC 4562 (13.7 mag), only 15’ south-west and orientated perpendicular to NGC 4565.
