Galaxy M82 in Ursa Major
The galaxy was discovered by Johann Elert Bode on 31 December 1774, together with M81. This is one of the classical deep-sky objects, already visible in a binocular. Larger apertures show the strange features in the peculiar galaxy M82, interacting with M81, 38' south.
